I tried Ableton live, FL...

I tried Ableton live, FL and Bitwig as a trial. Did not like FL. Liked Ableton but Bitwig seemed as good and the GUI was close to the same. Considering the price Bitwig was a clear winner.

When it comes to DAWs...
Reviewed on www.bhphotovideo.com·Robert
When it comes to DAWs what constitutes which one is the best is always a subjective topic and one that is driven more by what the personal needs are as well as what your work requires. I have been using Bitwig Studio ever since it was first released. I am not a professional musician and I am currently retired. When I decided to get back into music I wanted to try my hand at what the Digital Audio Workstations had to offer and to explore if I should even use one. When I purchased Bitwig I had not used any DAW so I decided to start with Bitwig mainly because when it was first released it did not cost a lot for a license. As the years have gone by I have never regretted my purchase. Unlike any other DAW in existence Bitwig runs on Windows, Mac OS, as well as Linux, I currently run it on Linux mainly because unlike Windows or the Mac you can run a low latency kernel for Linux. If I am going to work with music or video editing at boot up I select the low latency kernel. For me having never used any DAW before Bitwig I have found it easy to follow what it is doing and how to use it. One of the great things about Bitwig is it was always designed to be modular, when you run a VST or a VSTi it is run sandboxed. This is really good if your VST misbehaves and hangs or crashes, if this happens it does not affect Bitwig. If a VST crashes or hangs you just restart it. The Bitwig developers have done a lot of work so Bitwig functions flawlessly with a touch interface. They worked closely with Microsoft when the Surface Pro tablets were introduced. If you use Bitwig on a touch enabled device you select the tablet interface in Bitwig. I do not own a Surface Pro but along with my interest in music I also enjoy art both 2D and 3D and back in 2018 I purchased a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 Creative Pen & Touch Display Here on B&H. When I bought it was for art and at that time the Surface pro could not hold a candle to the Wacom drawing tablets but I was pleased to discover that it also works great with Bitwig Studios touch interface.\nAt the beginning of the year Bitwig released a major update and it is now Bitwig vs 3. Since this update it is really difficult to describe Bitwig, yes it is still a great DAW and still possesses all of its original capabilities however since its vs 3 released Bitwig has been transformed into probably the best sound design platform found any where. This new update incorporates what is called the Bitwig Grid. The Grid dramatically shows off Bitwigs modular architecture and if you select to work with the Grid the whole of Bitwig is transformed into an unlimited modular synth. The sounds and instruments that can be created is only limited by your own imagination. Even if you are only sort of interested in sound design you would do yourself a disservice by not checking out Bitwig. To get a better handle of what is possible with Bitwig's Grid check it out on YouTube. Just do a search once there for Bitwig 3 or Bitwigs Grid and you will find several videos of various lengths where you can get an idea of what it is all about. If it grabs your attention just go over to Bitwig's website, they have I think a 30 day demo of Bitwig that you can download. I like Bitwig so much I purchased a 2nd license for my Son as a gift a couple of years ago.
